  • Rice :1 cup washed
  • Tomato : 1 big size or 2 small size chopped
  • Ghee : 2 tbsp
  • Jeera (Cumin Seeds) : 1 tbsp
  • Red chili powder : 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder :1 tsp
  • Garam masala powder : 1/2 tsp
  • Sugar : 1 tbsp
  • Salt : to taste
  • Water : 1-1/2 cups
  • Fresh Coriander leaves : for garnishing

Recipe for Tomato Pulao:

  1. Wash the rice with water .Drain all the water and keep it aside.W_Tomato Pulao4
  2. In a pressure cooker heat 2 tbsp of ghee .Keep the flame on medium low.
  3. Add cumin seeds (jeera) and let them splutter W_Tomato Pulao5
  4. When aroma starts separating from cumin seeds ,add chopped tomatoes and saute for few minutes till the oil starts separating from the tomatoes.
  5. Add red chili powder, coriander powder and garam masala powder and mix.
  6. Now add the washed rice and saute for few seconds.W_Tomato Pulao6
  7. Add 1-1/2 cups of water and give it a stir.
  8. Add sugar and salt to taste .
  9. Mix well and close the lid of the pressure cooker.
  10. Let the rice cook for 2 whistles on medium flame.
  11. Turn off the flame immediately after 2nd whistle.
  12. Let the cooker cool down completely take out the rice in a serving dish and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.

Tips for Tomato Pulao:

  • Add 1-1/2 times water to the ratio of rice .this will be perfect water ratio for pulao rice to cook seperate.
  • Immediately after the 2 nd whistle turn off the flame otherwise rice would be overcooked.
