Nankhatai /Egg less Indian cookies/Indian Shortbread Buiscuit Recipe




  • Butter (unsalted) : 1/2 cup
  • All purpose flour (maida) : 1 cup
  • Powdered Sugar : 1/2 cup
  • Baking Powder :1/4 tsp
  • Salt : a pinch
  • Cardamon(Elaichi) Powder :1/2 tsp
  • Nutmeg (Jaifal) Powder:1/2 tsp
  • Pistachios halves :1/4 cup


  1. In a bowl take butter and melt it to room temperature.
  2. To it add sugar and whisk it .
  3. Add all purpose flour and baking powder .W_Nankhatai4
  4. To it add salt,cardamon powder and nutmeg powder.
  5. Mix everything very well and form a smooth dough.
  6. Wrap the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 20-25 minutes.
  7. After 20 minutes take the dough out from the refrigerator ,knead it and divide the ball in equal parts.W_Nankhatai5
  8. Preheat oven on 300 F.
  9. To the parts give the shape of balls and on top of each ball place some pistachios haves and slightly press them.
  10. Grease the baking tray with oil and place the balls on the baking tray placing them apart keeping some distance between two balls.
  11. Bake the balls for 15-20 minutes.When they are slightly golden or light brown they are done.
  12. Transfer them to cooling racks to cool down.
  13. Once cooled completely you can store them in air tight container.W_Nankhatai3


  • Instead of pistachios you can also use almonds choice is yours.
  • Always cool down nankhatais completely then only close the lid of air tight container.
